Hardware Lab Manager & Prototyping Technician — Robotics / Wearable Systems

Embodied Data Systems is looking for a hands-on Hardware Lab Manager & Prototyping Technician to support the development, assembly, testing, and maintenance of our robotics data-collection hardware.

This is a highly practical role for someone who enjoys building things, debugging electronics, working with PCBs and sensors, and turning engineering concepts into reliable physical prototypes. You will work closely with our engineering team to rapidly prototype new hardware, troubleshoot existing systems, and keep our hardware lab organized and operational.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, modify, test, and debug electronic prototypes and PCB-based systems
  • Perform PCB rework, soldering, component replacement, wiring, and connector assembly
  • Diagnose hardware failures using multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and other lab equipment
  • Support rapid prototyping of wearable electronics, sensors, embedded systems, and robotics hardware
  • Build and maintain wiring harnesses, cables, fixtures, test rigs, and prototype assemblies
  • Assist engineers with bring-up and validation of new PCB designs
  • Operate and maintain 3D printers and other rapid-prototyping equipment
  • Make basic mechanical modifications and prototype enclosures, mounts, brackets, and fixtures
  • Maintain hardware inventory, electronic components, tools, batteries, cables, sensors, and spare parts
  • Coordinate component ordering and communicate with PCB fabrication, assembly, and prototype vendors
  • Document prototype builds, hardware revisions, test procedures, and known issues
  • Help prepare and maintain hardware used for robotics data-collection sessions
  • Keep the lab organized, safe, and ready for rapid experimentation

What We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in an electronics lab, robotics lab, hardware startup, prototyping environment, or similar technical role
  • Strong soldering and electronics assembly skills, including fine-pitch soldering and PCB rework
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging circuits and PCB assemblies
  • Comfortable reading schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, and component datasheets
  • Familiarity with common lab equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench power supplies, and logic analyzers
  • Experience with connectors, wiring harnesses, sensors, batteries, and embedded electronic systems
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and rapid mechanical prototyping
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to independently troubleshoot hardware problems
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment where prototypes change frequently

Nice to Have

  • Experience with robotics, wearable electronics, motion tracking, or sensor systems
  • Experience with IMUs, electromagnetic sensors, microcontrollers, or embedded systems
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools such as KiCad, Altium, or Eagle
  • Basic CAD experience with tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Onshape
  • Experience flashing firmware and performing basic embedded-system debugging
  • Experience designing or building test fixtures
  • Familiarity with small-volume hardware manufacturing and prototype vendors

About Embodied Data Systems

Embodied Data Systems is a stealth-mode robotics startup developing proprietary wearable hardware and data infrastructure for collecting high-fidelity real-world human motion data for robotics and Physical AI.

We are a small engineering-driven team building hardware quickly and iterating often. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable with a soldering iron, an oscilloscope, a 3D printer, and a box of prototype parts, and who can help turn early engineering designs into robust, repeatable hardware systems.
